Specialist Paediatric Care Arrives in Nyngan
Supporting Specialist Paediatric Care in Regional NSW: Nyngan Welcomes Professor Nicholas Wood
Families in the Bogan Shire are set to benefit from improved access to specialist paediatric and immunisation care following the official welcome of Professor Nicholas Wood to Nyngan. An exciting milestone to mark the beginning of regular Medical Wings outreach clinics in the region and an initiative we are proud to at Hunter Health Insurance.
As a not-for-profit health fund, we’re committed to improving access to essential healthcare for regional communities. Our partnership with Little Wings helps ensure families in rural and remote areas can receive specialist care closer to home, reducing the need for long and often stressful trips to metropolitan hospitals.
Improving Access to Care for Regional Families
As a highly respected paediatrician and immunisation specialist, Professor Wood’s experience will provide valuable support to families across the Bogan Shire. His involvement in the new Nyngan clinics is an important step in making specialist care more accessible for children living in regional and remote communities. By bringing paediatric and immunisation services directly to Nyngan, families can access healthcare sooner and more comfortably.
Our Ongoing Partnership with Little Wings
Hunter Health Insurance is proud to support the Nyngan Medical Wings clinics through dedicated funding that has enabled Little Wings to appoint a Nurse and Clinic Coordinator, Nichole Callan. Nichole has played a key role in working with community leaders to establish the new paediatric clinic and ensure it meets the needs of local families.
Our partnership with Little Wings reflects our commitment to supporting community health initiatives and improving access to essential services across regional NSW. Click the button below to learn more about how we’re contributing to the critical work Little Wings does.
About Little Wings and the Medical Wings Program
Little Wings is a not‑for‑profit organisation that provides free flight and ground transport services for seriously ill children in rural and regional NSW, ACT and QLD. Their service is largely volunteer led, with pilots and drivers donating their time to help families access specialised medical treatment.
The Medical Wings program extends this mission by delivering mobile medical clinics in partnership with local hospitals, Aboriginal Medical Services and community health providers. These clinics ensure care is accessible, culturally safe and delivered closer to home, helping prevent avoidable health complications and unnecessary hospital visits.
Over the past year, Little Wings has supported thousands of children and families through their flight missions and Medical Wings clinics. Volunteers have contributed tens of thousands of hours to keep the service running, saving families significant travel time and easing pressure on hospital systems. It’s a powerful example of what community‑driven healthcare can achieve.
Looking Ahead
With Professor Wood now officially welcomed to Nyngan, families can look forward to improved access to specialist paediatric and immunisation services throughout 2026 and beyond. We are incredibly proud to have been involved in this initiative to strengthen healthcare access for one of our regional communities and the impact it will have on families being able to access quality healthcare.
