From basic to comprehensive cover with Hunter Health Insurance

We offer a range of hospital, extras and combined policy options for you to choose the best level of cover for your lifestyle and wellbeing.

Hospital Cover: Hospital cover is designed to help with the cost of treatment if you need to go to hospital. We offer a range of Hospital products to choose from so you can pick the product that you think best meets your needs in the future.

Extras Cover: Extras cover is designed to help you meet the cost of ancillary items such as optical, dental, physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment. Extras are a great way to supplement your hospital cover, and we have some great packages to choose from which complement any of our hospital covers depending on the level of cover you’re looking for.

Ambulance Cover: Ambulance cover helps with the costs incurred when being treated by paramedics and transported in ambulances. As ambulance costs are not covered by Medicare, it is recommended that every individual holds ambulance cover for peace-of-mind in unexpected circumstances to help you avoid potentially being out of pocket thousands of dollars in ambulance bills.

Hospital Cover

Private hospital insurance helps cover the cost of treatment in private hospitals, which may allow many benefits to you including:

  • cover for costs incurred while in hospital for reduced or no-gap cover
  • your choice of doctor
  • shorter wait times for elective surgeries
  • avoiding the Medicare Levy Surcharge if you are within the eligible income bracket

Our range of hospital insurance policies cater to different needs and budgets, from basic policies covering essential treatments to comprehensive plans that include a broad range of medical services, such as surgery, rehabilitation, and maternity care. Whether you’re looking for affordable coverage or premium benefits, we offer flexible plans to suit your lifestyle and healthcare needs.

Extras Cover

Extras or ancillary cover helps cover the cost of everyday healthcare services that Medicare does not include, such as dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropractic, remedial massage and more. Having extras cover helps to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for these treatments, making it easier to maintain your overall health and well-being.

Depending on your policy, there are many benefits to extras cover including:

  • Reduced healthcare costs. Get money back on services like minor and major dental work, prescription glasses or physical therapies.
  • Better health management. Access to preventative care or healthy lifestyle programs to help maintain long-term well-being.
  • Flexible coverage options. Choose a plan that suits your needs, from basic coverage to comprehensive benefits.
  • Claim on a wide range of services. On our Hunter and Premium policies, you can claim on a wider range of services such as alternative therapies like acupuncture or remedial massage as well as healthy lifestyle programs like the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet, stop smoking programs or chronic disease management programs.

Extras cover is an ideal add-on to your hospital policy to cover additional ancillary services. With a range packages to choose from, you can find the best level of cover to suit your individual needs.

Ambulance Cover

As ambulance costs are not covered by Medicare, it is recommended that every individual holds ambulance cover for peace-of-mind in unexpected circumstances to help you avoid potentially being out of pocket in an emergency.

Hunter Health Insurance Ambulance policies provide cover where the service is provided by a State Government Ambulance Service. We offer 6 and 12 month cover as a stand alone ambulance policy, or you can choose to add ambulance cover to your hospital policy.

Things to remember

  • Ambulance services are funded differently in some states.
  • In NSW and the ACT, cover is provided through an ambulance levy which is included in some hospital premiums. Nevertheless, cover under this scheme does not cover all Australian states. Residents in other states should check their home state ambulance services for coverage and services. Alternatively contact us at Hunter Health Insurance for your individual consultation.
  • As well, some people who receive a government pension or social security entitlement may also be covered for ambulance services.
  • The Federal Government rebate on private health insurance also applies to ambulance cover. Find out more about rebates here.
