What benefits are available to me as a Hunter Health Insurance member?
Hunter Health Insurance members who meet the eligible requirements may be able to claim the following services through Kieser Physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy Sessions
Physiotherapy is covered in every Hunter Health Insurance extras policy. You can claim a fixed cost for each physiotherapy session up to your annual limit. See how much you can claim based on your level of cover in the below table.

Kieser Care Programs
The Kieser Care Programs are specialised programs designed to prevent or delay hip, knee or spinal surgeries as well as to reduce pain or other symptoms. Hunter Health Insurance members who meet the eligible criteria can claim the full program cost which includes physiotherapy sessions, use of the Kieser equipment, a physiotherapist-designed, independent strengthening program and more.
Program Eligibility
You may be eligible to claim the full cost of the Kieser care program if you:
Are impacted by either hip or knee osteoarthritis or a condition of the lumbar spine
Require surgery within the next 3 years
Hold eligible cover and have served the relevant waiting periods
What’s Included
Under the Kieser care program, you can expect:
An initial assessment and one-on-one treatment with a physiotherapist
1:1 exercise sessions with an Exercise Physiologist or Exercise Scientist.
A physiotherapist-designed, independent strengthening program
Educational resources to manage your condition

To be eligible to claim the full cost of the Kieser care program, you must hold an eligible Hunter Health Insurance combined policy and have served the relevant waiting periods.
A combined policy is a policy that includes both Hospital and Extras (also referred to as Ancillary) cover.
Combined policies that are eligible for the Kieser care programs, are any Hunter Health Insurance Hospital policies with one of the following Extras:
Premium Extras
Hunter Extras
Healthy Extras
The following Extras products are not eligible for the Kieser Care Programs:
Ideal Extras
Optimum Extras (closed product)
Yes, in order to be eligible for the Kieser Care Program, you will need a referral from your general practitioner.
If you have only signed up for extras cover today, you will have to serve a 2 month waiting period before you can make claims against your policy.
If you’re transferring from another fund and already had the same level of extras cover and have served the 2 month period already, you can start claiming immediately.
Often when you are visiting a physiotherapist for the first time, the initial consult may take longer than a standard appointment as they fully assess your condition and needs. This can oftentimes result in a higher cost for your initial appointment.
To avoid our members being out of pocket more on the initial consult, we’ve increased the rebate available on the on that first visit to help reduce the out of gap fee you have to pay.
